From the Manufacturer The German Messerschmitt Bf 110 was intended to overwhelm the British Spitfires and Hurricanes with superior speed, and firepower when Hitler decided to attack England. It was nearly twice as big as the British fighters, had two engines and a tail gunner. What it lacked was maneuverability. After a few initial successes, the German pilots learned the big fighter was not suitable for dog fighting. RAF pilots quickly took advantage of the Bf 110's shortcomings and soon the Germans sent Bf 109s along to defend them.
